You are online to the internet with full, free access. You can do what you want. its free, so you can get emails, or browse the web. If you are looking for a full time always on connection, check with a local ISP for that. The Orcas Community Network is a service designed to allow visitors and residents to get access everywhere. You'll find its faster than AT&T 3g or other cellular broadband, but its not as fast as Orcas Online, Rock Island or Century Tel. Thank you, everyone for helping out. I've been coming to Orcas Island since 1993, and am moved to do whatever I can to preserve its beauty and support the local social and cultural environment. Love and tranquility to everyone.

Explore | [edit] |
Explore around this new Wiki. We're looking to add a few editors. If you feel you have something to contribute, send a note, or just start editing, and we'll know. Let's build a Wiki that our small team is happy with for now, and open it up to everyone later.
Basic ideas at present are:
-
a event board for events happening in town - and a link to the general calendar - done
-
a message board for shared rides, off-island visits, people willing to bring back or take along - moving along
-
pages that help newcomers to Orcas Island find cool things to do and how to do them. - moving along
When I first came to Orcas island via the airport, it wasn't clear what I could do on those days and how I'd get around. I'd like to document a typical arrival via airplane and one via Ferry.
-
Use the WiKi to tell stories about how various events take place here. For example, for many years, I'd arrive via a small plane, camp out at Moran State Park for 2 days then head over to Rosarios for a hot shower, warm bed and delicious meal the last day. That was a perfect 4 day 3 night weekend. These days, I love staying at the Outlook inn, its a bit closer to the Airport for a walk and I pack a bike in the plane, so its easy for me to commute into town.

ideas for the network that help foster network expansion and local use - webcams, live images, VoIP examples, PBX - for phone exchanges
-
keeping a network of networks free is crucial. There are many efforts to close networks of networks to allow only large companies to innovate in this space. For example, cellular companies would love to close the network to only their applications, as they have. iPhone and other small smart cell phones break from this tradition. Never the less, if you consider what a network of networks has become - Facebook, Bibo, MySpace - social level networks, you may come to the conclusion that a network of networks should not be controlled by so-called 'market forces' - i.e. big business, big government. Small, innovative groups of individuals created the internet. There's simply no denying that, and no large capital expense was required to make it work. Orcas Community Internet is such an example, small innovative and free.
Busy week.
